Use of the Professional Title “Psychotherapist”

Please read this notice before enrolling and before using any professional title or beginning clinical practice.

In short: our programme is an educational training in transpersonal psychotherapy and counselling. The words “psychotherapy” and “psychotherapist” describe what we teach — they do not, by themselves, grant a professional title, licence or the legal right to practise. The rules differ from country to country, and it is each student’s responsibility to check them.

The use of the terms “psychotherapy school,” “psychotherapy training,” and “transpersonal psychotherapy training” in connection with this programme describes the educational content and orientation of the training. These terms do not, by themselves, confer a professional title, licence, registration, accreditation, or legal authorisation to practise as a psychotherapist.

The legal status of psychotherapy and the professional title “psychotherapist” varies considerably between countries. In some jurisdictions, the title is legally protected and may be used only by individuals who meet specific statutory requirements. These requirements may include:

  • a specified university degree or prior professional qualification;
  • completion of a nationally recognised psychotherapy training programme;
  • a prescribed number of clinical practice, supervision, and personal therapy hours;
  • registration with a governmental, statutory, or professional body;
  • professional examinations, licensing, or recognition procedures; and
  • compliance with national healthcare, professional, insurance, and ethical regulations.

Admission to or completion of this programme does not guarantee that a student or graduate will be legally eligible to use the title “psychotherapist,” obtain professional registration, receive reimbursement from healthcare systems or insurers, or practise psychotherapy independently in any particular country.

Each student’s responsibility

Each student is responsible for verifying the legal and professional requirements applicable in:

  • their country of residence;
  • every country in which they intend to practise or offer services, including online services; and
  • any country in which their clients may be located, where relevant.

Students should obtain current information directly from the competent governmental authority, statutory regulator, or recognised national professional organisation before enrolling in the programme and again before using a professional title or beginning clinical practice.

Students should be aware that information provided by professional organisations does not replace national legislation or advice from the relevant regulatory authority. Legal and professional requirements may also change over time.

The programme and its organisers make no representation or guarantee that this training, whether completed in whole or in part, will satisfy the legal, academic, licensing, registration, or professional-recognition requirements of any particular jurisdiction.

What you confirm when you enrol

When you apply, you will be asked to sign an enrolment agreement that includes the following acknowledgement:

I understand that participation in or completion of this transpersonal psychotherapy training programme does not automatically grant me the legal right to use the professional title “psychotherapist” or to practise psychotherapy independently.

I acknowledge that professional titles, licensing, registration, and eligibility requirements vary between countries. I accept responsibility for verifying the requirements applicable in my country of residence and in every jurisdiction in which I intend to practise, including where services are provided online.

I understand that the programme does not guarantee recognition, registration, licensing, employment eligibility, or reimbursement by healthcare systems or insurers in any particular country.

The only personal data we ever receive is what you choose to send us directly — for example through the application form or by writing to west-office@transpersonal-training.com (Western track) or east-office@transpersonal-training.com (Eastern track). In that case, the following applies in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, "GDPR"):

  • Data controller: Eastwest Transpersonal Training School, reachable at the email addresses above.
  • Categories of data processed: the name, email address and any other information you voluntarily include in your message or application.
  • Purpose and legal basis: responding to your enquiry and assessing applications, on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and, where applicable, to take pre-contractual steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Retention: your data is kept only for as long as necessary to handle your enquiry or application, and is then deleted.
  • Recipients: your data is not sold or shared with third parties, save where strictly necessary to respond to you (e.g. our email provider) or where required by law.
  • Your rights: under Articles 15–22 GDPR you may request access to, rectification or erasure of your data, restriction of or objection to its processing, and data portability, and you may lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority at any time. To exercise these rights, simply email us at the address above.

Newsletter

If you tick the newsletter box on the contact form, we also keep your name and email to send you occasional updates about the training and the school, on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw this consent and unsubscribe at any time by emailing us at the address above; this does not affect any other request you have made.
